Shikhar Dhawan was born on December 5, 1985 in Delhi

Indian cricket's rising superstar Shikhar Dhawan has been constantly in the news for his smashing innings and he scored yet another century on Friday in the ODI match against Zimbabwe. His belligerent form on the pitch has earned him great reviews. We look back at his life

Dhawan represented India at the 2004 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh where he ended up being the highest scorer in the tournament. Dhawan scored 505 runs at an average of 84.16, which included 3 centuries and was also named the Player of the Tournament.

Dhawan's rise continued as he was picked for the Delhi Ranji team. The southpaw made his Ranji debut for Delhi in 2004–05, finishing as the team's leading run scorer with 461 runs.

With such lethal form in the domestic circuit, Shikhar Dhawan caught the eye of the selectors and earned an ODI call-up in the Indian cricket team. Dhawan made his ODI debut against Australia but eventually was out on a second ball duck.

But after a year, Shikhar Dhawan was in the side that toured the West Indies in 2011. In the four ODIs he played, Dhawan's highest score was 51.

Shikhar Dhawan's hard work in the domestic circuit paid off as he earned a test call-up to the Indian test team and made his debut against the Australians in the 3rd test match at Mohali in March 2013. Dhawan got his test cap from none other than Indian batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar.

Dhawan went on to score a record breaking century (fastest ton on debut) and scored 187 against the Aussies. He was also involved in a 283-run opening stand with Murali Vijay which is now the highest ever in India-Australia Tests.

Shikhar Dhawan has also made a splash in the Indian Premier League. He played for the likes of Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and the Deccan Chargers. He now plays for the Hyderabad Sunrisers.

Playing in your first major ICC tournament and scoring two tons back to back is no walk in the park. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan top scored with 363 runs that included two back-to-back tons at an average of 90.75 in 5 games. Dhawan displayed an array of shots that left the bowlers clueless and his form was one of the key factor in India winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

Shikhar belongs to a Punjabi family and is married to a half-Bengali and half-British girl, Ayesha Mukherjee. He is step father to her two daughters who are settled in Australia.
